Internships:
The 2024 season marks Summerfield Zoo's 17th year of offering internships. We offer internships for both current students and post-graduates that prepare you for careers in animal care.
Internships for Current College Students:
This internship runs four days per week for twelve weeks. Most colleges will offer course credits for the current student internship. We have internships available for biology, zoology, marketing, and business majors.
Internships for Post Graduate Students:
This internship runs five days per week for four months. It includes a stipend and housing if needed. This internship prepares post graduate students to work as zookeepers.

Volunteer Positions:
Our volunteers help when we are open to the public by staffing our bottles for baby goats and petting zoo areas. If you are interested in a volunteer position please e-mail us at SummerfieldFarmAndZoo@Gmail.com.
Zookeeper:
This zookeeper position includes rotation through animal care of all species residing at the zoo – ranging from hyenas, wolves, alligators, otters to reindeer, sloths, and horses. Animal care includes diet preparation and feeding, inspecting habitats, cleaning habitats, maintaining habitats, animal enrichment, and daily reports on animals. This position may include giving tours, animal shows, etc. This position also may include some supervisory duties.
Applicant must be dedicated to all aspects of animal care. Applicant must be able to work well with others.
Facility has indoor and outdoor habitats year round. Applicant must be willing to work outside and inside year round. Applicant must be able to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
Applicant must have experience in animal care.
Must be capable of the physical requirements to work in a zoo setting (ie, lift 50 lbs, etc.)
Must be able to work with and without direct supervision.
Must be able to follow written and oral directions.

Groundskeeper:
Part time position or full time position.
This position includes mowing, weed-eating, general maintenance, etc.
Applicant must be willing to work out doors. Must be capable of the physical requirements of working in a groundskeeper position at a zoo (ie, lift 50 lbs, operate groundskeeping equipment, etc.) Must be able to follow directions. Experience preferred.
